This is such a hard season but it truly is a short speck of time in the grand scheme of things - or so I tell myself during witching hour when Luke is screaming bloody murder and nothing I do soothes him 😔
Yelena, I always enjoy your writing and perspective on motherhood. I just read a newsletter about liberating motherhood from the patriarchy. It felt like the mother influencers who scream about the hardships of motherhood and allows zero room for the beauty.
But the heartbreaking part for me were the women in the comments. They are hurting and feeling unseen. What if we could still have space for women in hardship but offer a balanced look, as you did wonderfully in the piece. I’m always thankful for you!
Comments on posts (including social media posts) seem to be the place women show up to be vulnerable and find community. Idk how I feel about that but at least it’s something?
I think a lot of that was influenced by their children’s schools, social activities (sports and libraries), or work if the mother was working. I’ve been mourning the lack of in person family community in that sense lately because I remember my mother having at least one family we saw on a regular basis that helped ease the load of childcare, work, and play.
🧡 people seem to think postpartum is six weeks and life moves on back to normal but the reality is takes a mom at least a year or two to get through postpartum seasons!
This was so good! I am almost 4 weeks postpartum and much of this resonated. Saving it to return to ❤️

Like I wonder back before the internet how or if women found community in person…

This was a beautiful read. I’m nine months postpartum with my second and this all resonates.
